Was doing quite well in a poker tournament until I was given an object lesson that while “Charge more” is almost always the right play in software “Bluff more” has diminishing marginal returns in poker.

We can't accurately assess quality of the play w/o context - stack sizes, blinds, in the cash or how far, etc. In most situations (cash games included), I don't like this move - UTG's range isn't that wide and you get called too much. But sometimes it could make sense in tourney.

AJ is viable as a non-bluff hand, and your shove only gets called by stuff that has AJ dominated. A flat call and a 3bet can both make money here without such risk. I think your original assessment (bluffing too much) was probably good.
