Was doing quite well in a poker tournament until I was given an object lesson that while “Charge more” is almost always the right play in software “Bluff more” has diminishing marginal returns in poker.

I don't know, was that disastrous? Poker Cruncher says AJo has 43% raw equity vs. Upswing's UTG opening range (77+, AQo+, QTs+, 98s+, A5s); if you assume all the non-broadway hands fold to an all-in, I think that probably gets you there. Seems like a reasonable play to me!

Hmm, maybe I was too results oriented there after a rapid downswing. Thanks!

Oy. That’s the tough (and glorious) part of NLHE tourneys: One mistake can end it, regardless of how many good decisions you’ve made prior. GG.

If you were short(er) stacked, not a bad play. UTG folds a decent percent of the time, the rest puts you at only slightly worse than 50/50 against the probable range they'd call, including under pairs.
