If a journalist describes you as "embattled," they're saying you're guilty as charged. The word basically doesn't exist in spoken English. Most reporters are forbidden by house style rules from speaking in the first person. It is part of a US journalistic current of striving for (and pretending to) objectivity, as opposed to, say, the overtly partisan school of reporting common in Britain and at Fox.
