We are all born with a short position on housing https://twitter.com/ctbeiser/status/1110810350109089792 …

I am a dumbass and I don't know what any of this means.
A short position means you expect prices to drop, right? So we are born... expecting housing prices to drop...? Is this an American thing? -
Short housing means that you have an investment position which results in gain if the price of housing decreases or loss if the price of housing increases. The intuition people are going for is “Because you need to live somewhere, if price of housing goes up, bad news for you.”

You were short in that you needed housing, but your family helpfully hedged by giving you a place to stay, so your position was flat until you moved out.
