It probably works less well for the university, but given that most universities are utterly unaffected by anything that happens inside of a classroom, they'll probably not care that much.

Pick any measurement you want. Here's the surprising ones to me: In the real world off-again-on-again podcast. In another life, I am a tenured university professor. In which world: a) Did more listener-hours happen? b) Did more average listener-hours-per-listener happen?

I was thinking "well our comedy tabletop game podcast
@CrudestSwords is closer to a Pratchett novel than a university course" but honestly we get fan art, it has the biggest audience of anything I have every done creatively ( not big! ) and engaging with them is super fun. -

This so much. My favourite podcast is “In our time”, which is basically a series of one-hour lectures. If a university could give me lecture feeds, I would sub to dozens of them tomorrow. Do I want to enroll in a university course, even remote? Hell no.

It’s interesting that to the extent entrepreneurial energy is going into podcasts it’s about producing shows. I think a ‘YouTube for podcasts’ that expands the audience could be significant. Focusing on episodes as the atomic unit instead of shows+machine learning for discovery.

There is ample space for both modes, considering the abject failure of existing directories / suggestion engines. I hate “true crime” podcasts, but because lots of people like them, I am bombarded with them in every app I try.
