Apparently the scandal today is that some universities were obvious and déclassé about corruption instead of handling it through the development office, as is traditional for such matters.

This is the weirdest thing. We successfully got rich people to build schools *also* for the talented, as opposed to *just* their kids.

there were always a fe brillant people in the ruling class. The entire Enlightenment was made by wealthy people (and a few monks) who didn't need to work and had time to think.
