Later is always better than never :) which resources have you used to learn Japanese in the beginning? I barely passed n5 but wish to be solid for n4 this year.. would be glad to receive some advice!

JSL (Japanese the Spoken Language) for speaking + listening comprehension. We used their written companion series for reading/writing but wasn't particularly useful relative to every other option, which I think JSL is.

But it is the same character as からい - spicy… maybe that’s what you were thinking of all these years?

This happens more often with non-native Jp. speakers because we are missing more hours of handwriting practice. You will be able to distinguish such small differences if you memorize by motor memory (hand+eye) and not just by visual perception. This how brain works.

I heard a story of an English karate club that had the kanji that they thought meant 'second to none' on everything. Unfortunately the translation was a bit off and it actually meant 'next to worthless'. Is that plausible?

Not knowing Japanese, could the similarity be intentional? (Because happiness/blessing often requires some pain.)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
