Complicated and partially downstream of weird idiosyncrasies in the industry about career technologies, a two-tier caste system for technology work, and similar. I feel like I understand where folks who claim age discrimination are coming from but do not discount heavily for it.

The dotcom bust was wild. So many people were out of work - the freeways in the Bay area were empty of cars. You have to figure a future risk of that repeating into anyone's equation for a tech career.

Definitely. And with politicians now talking about splitting AppAmaGooBookSoft, the risk is there. On the other hand, money is coming from all over the world into the US because the US withdrawing from the global order makes rich people uneasy; that capital influx may end with VC
