My kingdom for a video game company called Games For People With Jobs and Children. I'm pretty agnostic as to what they make, as long as it says "Get 100+ hours of compelling habit-forming gameplay... in somebody else's game, because you're busy and want to be done this decade."

(By the way, https://howlongtobeat.com  is very useful if you’re not aware of it already. And now I wanna make a mashup which sends users an email whenever a new game has a Metacritic score of >X and a time-to-beat <Y hours 🤔)

http://gamerswithjobs.com  is a podcast/community/forum built more or less around this sentiment.

I have long proposed that the online gaming networks should offer a "Masters" league for say, people over 30. Especially in any game where you might want to use voice chat.

Do you mean Nintendo? Smash bros and mario kart matches pretty well your description. You have access to the full content from the beginning, new versions build on habits developed while playing past ones. And they are playable with children :)

This is why I love my switch and the “casual” iOS games. All the other consoles are heavily tilted towards the latter 100 hour epics.

There are a few really fun VR games that play in 30-60 min. One is “Accounting”. The creativity that fits in short-form VR format is incredible, and perfect for us parents. (Hoping Oculus Quest and other new casual room-scale VR will further enable this genre)

Also the switch is great for this. You can play bite sized pieces as much as you want. But they're real games. So you end up playing Zelda in 10 minute increments.

This is the reason I play nes / snes games with my kids. Lots of fun, cartridges are extremely easy to use (even if you can’t read yet)

NES games have simple controls. Most games lack obscenity and violence. Simplified music and graphics are good for imagination.
