Lightning is in beta and not usable for someone who wants to use it in production that doesn't want to get their hands dirty.

Exactly, it's kinda like being a business and looking at email in the late '80s and complaining that it was broken & too complicated, and therefore will never be a thing ... too many people confusing 'early' with 'broken'

Lightning is interesting in that it really illustrates a lot of tough economic tradeoffs, and it's clear that this simply wasn't thought about much in its design. If the US economy had to tie up 99% of its money supply in a huge array of checking accounts it'd cause a depression

... or it's clear that people simply aren't taking the time to understand its design before making pronouncements about it

I don't know why he'd need to use Lightning for payroll. Regular bitcoin transfers aren't fast, but it's like 20 minutes to an hour if I recall, which for a weekly-ish paycheck shouldn't be too bad. Better than 24 hours for an ACH.

My reading was that fees were too high? Or maybe, that there was at least one time when they were too high.

That thread is a convoluted mess of FUD and misunderstandings. I remember good people trying to educate him since more than a year, but what he really wants is all of the advantages, with none of the drawbacks.

This is a description of Lightning - Blockstream's payment network layered on top of Bitcoin Core. Real Bitcoin, aka Bitcoin Cash doesn't have any of these issues.

well... except you know, getting blocks bigger than a few Kbs...
