I would really really really like to know if any company has actually run the numbers on whether the operational benefits from "Select traffic light" CAPTCHAs are worth the real customer pain they impose, particularly for paid services.

“Install NoNickleAndDime and for $100 a year Wifi always just works.” (This is an actual thing in China, IIRC, largely by using a crowdsourced database of wifi passwords, but you could bootstrap it just on hotel/airplane/etc wifi for biz travelers.)
