If you have someone close to you who has income for the first time and needs very prescriptive advice, this is probably 80% of what gainfully employed professionals need to know about personal finance. (I'd make very slightly different product recommendations.)https://twitter.com/zrail/status/1097965386111377413 …

In particular I like how Pete's version is very Do This, Do This, Do This rather than giving the theory or numerous options, because some users of finance want to abdicate responsibility for choice, and I'd far prefer they do that to a disinterested geek rather than broker.

My version of this was here: https://training.kalzumeus.com/newsletters/archive/investing-for-geeks … But it's a bit heavier on persuading people about the theory and a bit lighter on prescriptive product recommendations.

Used them for a few years; adequate but not particularly inspired. I eventually moved those accounts to Interactive Brokers partially because IB will split the fees they get on loaning your shares out, partially for margin rates, and partially due to perceived expat-friendliness.

Interactive Brokers is *not not not* the recommendation I would give to 98% of the people that I'll ever give financial advice to, but for the last 2%, the delta between it and their next best option is conceivably Quite Large. It's basically the C of brokerages.

*sigh* As a responsible adult who works at a financial institution, let me clarify that I would never give anyone financial advice, not being licensed to do that, and that I restrict myself to giving financial information and/or business advice.
