In particular I like how Pete's version is very Do This, Do This, Do This rather than giving the theory or numerous options, because some users of finance want to abdicate responsibility for choice, and I'd far prefer they do that to a disinterested geek rather than broker.

My version of this was here: https://training.kalzumeus.com/newsletters/archive/investing-for-geeks … But it's a bit heavier on persuading people about the theory and a bit lighter on prescriptive product recommendations.

I’d love to hear your product suggestions!

If I were replicating that setup, I'd use Vanguard. If I were doing things slightly differently, and I do, it would be Wealthfront. (I am semi-constrained in my own life on this score due to being a non-resident US citizen, and I think their tax-loss harvesting interesting.)

Nice to see a tech worker talking about term life. Employer sponsored is typically inadequate. A good idea for anyone with kids, especially if you want to fund their college education. AIGdirect has an ok calculator to get you started.

@zrail's risk, it's Fidelity's liquidity -
I'm not worried about Fidelity's liquidity either. Maybe in a specialized money market fund, but FZFXX is one of their two options for core positions and their terms are pretty explicit that they won't impose redemption gates under any circumstances.

@zrail Where did you get the private personal disability insurance from? I've been looking for a provider for a while. -
I used a broker who shopped my details out to a number of providers. Ended up with a MetLife policy.
