Rates exert gravity. If you charge more, you’ll spend your time talking to more sophisticated clients, working in better businesses, specializing in projects close to the money. These are compounding advantages. If you charge less, similar dynamics apply.

FWIW, I’ve seen very similar things in my business, which is very solidly a niche B2C services business. Every time I raise my rates, I discover there are yet more sophisticated clients who value my work even more. And while I might have to work more hours, the work is easier.
