Where do jobs come from? ...and if that's too politically triggering: where does stuff that needs doing — that other people are willing to pay for — come from? Is there a finite supply of stuff to do? Can it be expanded? Contracted? So much rides on the way we think about this

Jobs as scripts are software, but for any output they still needs to run which requires hardware put together in particular ways. Creating jobs (creating value, really) is more than a script and a check.

I meant it more in the sense of a life script. There's a substantial amount of social technology in "You should arrange your life, always, such that you can show up sober and rested at 9:00 AM and listen to someone but, and this is pretty important, never punch them in the face."
