Somewhat surprised they didn't key it to 40 a month (20 working days x 2 commutes a day)

Exactly what I was thinking. I guess you supplement that with public transit or....?

Just showed my roommate this, who tried the offer for a while in SF: “Not worth it. If the ride costs more than $15, you pay the full fare. If the ride is less than $15, you pay exactly $15.”
-
Wait, you pay *on top* of the $299 for sub-$15 rides? I “get” (but dislike) paying for the rides over that, but for those less than doesn’t make sense.

Rideshare is so commoditized they will need to do additional things like creating a subscription out of it. Surprised subscriptions aren't the default for dense areas.

Also, the lock-in that comes with a subscription. Assuming this promo is limited to commutes, subscribers will choose to take other one-off rides with Lyft. Simple psychological side-choosing behavior to pull more people onto the Lyft “team”

I did 496 rides last year, they keep offering this to me. I think I'm going to take it next month. (I've never had a car)

30 rides seems like a weird package to me. More than lots of people need for the occasional errands or day out, but not enough to make it to work 5 days a week

To and from work that is

Bet you they ran the numbers and the average of rides that are less than $15 is less than $10. So they can make more money off their riders. Most if my rides that'd be less than $15 are less than $10.
