Ed Nelson (Dr. Rossi) summed up what he had learned in his five years on the show. “I’ve found that the most important thing for an actor is honesty,” he said. “And when you learn how to fake that, you’re in.” from https://quoteinvestigator.com/2011/12/05/fake-honesty/ …

I've been that guy in a competition scenario, and lost to the guy I helped out. In the grand scheme of things, I only helped him beat me in a competition, rather than helped him out of some difficulty. I don't think it was worth it, it was a small lesson for me.

Was the competition worth more than your integrity? You did the right thing. Seeing you do that would have tipped some of those watching to do the right thing themselves in the future. You made the world better. That's ace!

I briefly trained as a ref for kids’ soccer in the US. Once saw a senior ref cool down a coach by saying “I get that you want to win, but you don’t want to win *like that*.”

It often costs *so little* to help other people, yet it can make a huge difference to the person getting the help. There must be some developed theory about this, like comparative advantage in economics?
