we should have an easy way to invest in individuals. physics-wise its possible. maybe some kind of crypto/blockchainy network may be involved in providing a mechanism for it. or some centralized middle-man service

The two closest things I know of to investing in individuals are YC and Lambda School, both of them in the “OK that technically is not the nature of the transaction but actually that’s basically the game.”

There's a concern -- often times, one can cause more damage by trying to be helpful. While there's not much at risk for the "helper", even an off-hand remark can bring ruin to the people being "helped".

- Usually the ROI is negligible or nothing.
- Sometimes the ROI is decent.
- Once in a while the ROI is absolutely phenomenal.
Like angel investing, being helpful has limited downside and unlimited upside.
