An old but (as usual) thought provoking thread by @patio11. However: “The idea is not valuable” is like “The leader is not valuable” is like “The money is not valuable” is like “The staff is not valuable”. The mistake is thinking only one part has value and the rest is noise 1/https://twitter.com/patio11/status/936615327093231616 …

Your idea is not valuable, at all. All value is in the execution. You think you are an exception; you are not. You should not insist on an NDA to talk about it; nobody serious will engage in contract review over an idea, and this will mark you as clueless.

Hmm, no. The point I hear Patrick making (and others in... shall we say very different fields saying the same thing) is that ideas in fact are cheap. Important, but cheap. In an information theoretic sense, "taxi company but without medallions and with an app" is what, 52 bits?

The *successful execution* of "taxi company but without medallions and with an app" is MUCH MUCH MORE expensive, and much much more Kolmogorovian-ly complex, than 52 bits.

This is an analogy, and like all analogies slightly false, but only slightly

“All modes are wrong but some models are useful” continues to be both wrong and useful.

I had a pretty major idea plagiarized. It sucked, but well, I’ve got lots of ideas. It still sucked. The idea is a node on a graph. It’s an important node, and entire very large systems can find themselves unable to protect and nurture nodes like that anymore. Often do.
