Some folks phrase that as “Company policy is not to disclose.” or “I’m NDAed.” but both of those are falsifiable representations whereas it’s not falsifiable that you’re being courteous.

Salaries are not reliably pullable by 3rd parties in US. (Mortgage originators would love that product! Doesn’t exist.) It sounds like you are sabotaging yourself here and justifying it. Is there a high-quality reason to do that?

The variation on this approach that I hit in was to say that, as a matter of course, I don't discuss non-public information about employers with anyone outside the company, and that includes the details of their compensation structure

I'm a fan of "I'd rather learn more about your company and the role before naming my salary requirements for this position, but it sounds like you're trying to figure out if we're in the same budget range, correct?" and then proceed to ask them what their budget is.
