Yes… I always find friends who say “it was more than I expected” and I tell them; if you don’t counter you aren’t negotiating, you’re just agreeing.

Yep. No shame in misunderestimating what you were worth to the company; that's why you ask them to go first. They just told you "Low end of our range is higher than high end of yours"; spiffy. So you settle on middle of their range and everyone walks away thrilled.
