“We don’t negotiate salaries” is a negotiation tactic. Always. No, your company is not an exception.

This is saying “You’ve negotiated salaries before and will again and we both know this but since we’re both professionals I won’t call bullshit to your face.”

Another thing is asking “Roger with respect to your feelings on that component of the negotiation for the moment. Where do you have flexibility?”, nail down an increase there, then come back to salary.

I prefer "*shrug* oh well, it was nice meeting you". If a company is offering a salary you don't find acceptable and says they don't negotiate, there are two possibilities: 1. They don't pay enough 2. They're lying to you which both lead to "find somewhere else to work".

I realize that "recruiters lie" is something of a truism, but it's not something I find acceptable, and it's certainly not something I think we should support to the point of finding workarounds for the hiring processes of companies which encourage such dishonesty.

We actually don’t negotiate salaries. We have standardized salaries based on Radford data. We are up front about it from the very first phone screen. This ensures that we pay each of our team members fairly, not less because they didn’t know to negotiate.

It also ensures we don’t have salary differences based on gender as women statistically tend to be less likely to negotiate an offer.

Big corporate law firms appear to somehow get away with a remarkable lack of salary negotiation. That might just be my far away impression though. I'm sure there are exceptions.

Only for junior associates. And it's because there's such an oversupply, plus they leverage the concept that paying an entire class the same thing is "fairer."

I was about to say "no it doesn't", then realized I. Have. Never. Met Patrick. But I had to REALLY think about that to realize I hadn't. That's how well I THINK I know him :)
