it's been my suspicion that this bad acoustic engineering is actually purposeful social engineering so that less conversation goes further distance. i think the trend of louder background music supports this idea.

We’re making lots of technology noise pollution as well. Many air-based hand dryers in restrooms are dangerously loud as well.
