As long as I’m spontaneously remarking in things let me spontaneously remark that I am perfectly safe in a well-regulated international airport behind the security lines now and, on balance, quite enjoyed my trip to Singapore.

In five years of living Singapore - wasn’t once overcharged by a cab. They are awesome there.

Ride sharing apps prevent extortion of foreigners by cab drivers, says the American living in India spontaneously for no reason in particular. Perhaps one day, my original homeland and my adopted one will be organized as well as Singapore. Until then, there's Uber.

but so do local laws that have a fixed fee to/from airport

In Paris a couple months ago at the cab stand the driver denied the existence of fixed price and pulled up some random Android app as his “meter” Laws help to the extent that anybody listens and follows them I guess. Hard to pull that shit with the app based services.

With the exit of Uber, ride share apps no longer are consistently cheaper than regular taxis in SG. Also, taxis have to use the meter else they get into trouble.

I said this in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, as I was being ripped off by a cab driver and saw Uber was banned

I’ve also seen ride sharing drivers know very little of the place they’re supposed to be driving you within, which can lead to funny situations when they just follow their phone. Best experience for me when traveling are with cabs. Knowing which cabs to go with can be researched.

For no reason in particular: You may lodge a complaint against a taxi driver by the following means: 1) By phone: Call LTA Hotline at 1800-Call LTA (1800-225 5582) 2) By email: LTA's website at http://www.lta.gov.sg
