There is something weird and a little broken about hundreds of people from around the country traveling a long distance for the best cheap diner hamburger.

If instead there is actually a subculture of people who willingly travel to other states for destination meals without something else motivating that travel, I confess to my continuing inability to understand how the human mind works.

I mean hold on, there is DEFINITELY that subculture, and some of it is even justified! I get flying to Spain for El Bulli or to Denmark for Noma! I just don’t get doing it for a diner burger.

As an occasional business traveler, I think this is all about search. I'm in city X for 4 nights with nothing to do. I google "best Y to eat in X". I find some
@Thrillist listicle or whatever. I eat that burger. -

One time I had to go to New Jersey for work (I was contracting for AT&T at the time) and we made a special 1 hour trip to a diner whose sliders were rated one of the top 10 burgers in the US. They were ok.
