Very boring thoughts re: http://www.ycombinator.com/topcompanies/ 1) It's refreshing to see a list of anything that isn't spread over 10 pages to optimize for CPMs. 2) It is a <table> which looks good. This is still surprising for me to see anywhere, even in 2018. Why is that?

And to be fair I lack even the vocabulary to describe why it looks good. Typography something something. Maybe kerning something something. It has the character of not assaulting the eyes like almost all tabular presentations of text and numbers. You get what I mean.

It’s strange that the (correct) backlash against tables for page layout overshot and made people think tables weren’t even suitable for… tabular data. I like Practical Typography’s advice on them (along with all its other advice): https://practicaltypography.com/tables.html
