A thing I have often thought about is how everyone professes to love education and says universities are good at it but if I told my friends or family that I'm taking 4 years to do another undergrad degree (at age 36) for personal enrichment they'd question my sanity.https://twitter.com/webdevMason/status/1048193848554348545 …

The education is not in the lectures, it’s in the environment of self discovery and nurturing of curiosity.

And in meeting people who are passionate about similar topics, and collaborating with one another (in school and after). The concentration and connection of domain-specific talent is maybe the most valuable parts of college.

You were younger, and your time was cheaper.

Some days I question taking one year of my life (and still $160k, mysteriously) to get an MBA.

My theory of the value of (good) undergrad is a lot of what you learn is how to learn, plus lotd of social skills/growing up, plus White Collar acculturation, plus gain a network. All of those have higher utility at 18 than 36.

ran into that even while in school... even from other students. My response, always was and still is: you get out of it what you put in... and often reflects on disposition of professor

Another option would be a top-flight master's program for mid-career types.

In my case it was massively cheaper (though it did take me more than 4 years because sometimes life happens). I think tuition was about $2k/quarter when I graduated
