Why not hire remotely? I get that it's really hard to adopt remote work then you've got a company running, but that shouldn't be an issue for startup.

This assumes existing members are competent at executing with remote teammates, and can recognize candidates that do well remotely. Failure in either place can be fatal. Most startups have enough risk elsewhere already.
