This isn’t infrequent. The more important lesson isn’t “Ugh, recruiters.” This position will be filled, because that requirement, which is impossible to satisfy, is like every other requirement: a wish, not a rule. Operationalizing this: feel free to apply to jobs ~30% too highhttps://twitter.com/mitchellh/status/1046153956282363906 …

"What about requirements which are split between optional and required?" Some wishes are also fishes. (Just about the only highly likely to be true requirements are the ones where a profession is sufficiently guilded-up to make it literally illegal for you to work without X.)

Like you actually do experience a step function increase in employability as a lawyer after passing the bar exam, but you do not after the 60th month of Rails experience relative to month 59.

In the same way that working a retail job will make you empathetic to the customer service employees you work with, I think having to hire for a role where you don't have access to a pool of candidates would really help people understand this process.

I've never been involved in making a blockbuster movie before, but I'll bet if I had I'd understand why, even with the best of intentions and all the money in the world, some of these films turn out to be really crappy.
