I just found out someone has made a reactji with my face on work's Slack. The shortcode is :chargemore: I was worried about being outcompeted by coworkers but it would be really embarrassing if an emoji of me is an adequate substitute. (And for that advice it might well be!)

The less flippant version of this: "What is the company *really* buying?" Some people in the company strongly suspect they should charge more, but they or others are worried about downside risk on a levered, trapdoor decision. So they want(ed) an external sanity check + advice.

"Advice?" Do you know what grandfathering is? Where you give existing customers their current pricing for forever and just charge the new, higher pricing on new customers? Grandfathering is a *technology.* It is a really, really simple technology; this tweet is ~all there is.

Grandfathering effectively immediately solves the "Won't our current customers revolt if we raise prices" problem and is, perhaps surprisingly, something that many SaaS companies don't think of because they have nobody at the company whose job it is to think "How do we price?"

There are technologies other than grandfathering. Sometimes folks assume (reasonably?) that I know more about them than they do, because I ran a boutique consultancy which worked with SaaS companies, so they'd source expertise (and implementation) where they didn't have it.
