Dear women: if I started a business leasing out men in suits who'd sit beside you and say *nothing* during important meetings, would you be interested in hiring them for an hour here and there?

It's a good idea, but as an older white man, if I'm at a meeting and say nothing people look concerned and ask if I'm OK.

Use that to the clients advantage. “I’m concerned you don’t have my clients best interests here.” Go back to quiet. They’ll panick.

"That's an interesting offer. Can you make my client a better one?" (Seriously I used this to immediately get $200/month taken off my rent)

Fun story: back in my salaryman days, a Japanese friend of mine travelled to Chicago and tried to check into his hotel early. “We have no availability.” I suited up and said: “I’m Mr. Tanaka’s translator and here to facilitate the check-in.” Which was of course possible.

“Wait why are we doing this?” “Nobody who can afford a white guy in a suit to handle a routine interaction will EVER get bad service at a hotel.” “Is this a white guy thing?” “Partially but mostly it is salaryman suit magic.”
