What are the truly valuable things you can you learn about code without a computer? Asking for someone currently incarcerated who wants to learn and has no access to a computer.

Depending on raw drive and a few other factors you could potentially get through a few CS topics like asymptotic time complexity which while not often super useful relative to e.g. HTTP are often used as shibboleths for CS education in interviews.

Why does that *not* surprise me :) (I'm almost as guilty: i got bored in Navy tech school and designed a 4 bit microprocessor. It had addressable memory and an adder) Actually, my most productive designs were AWAY from the computer.

At age six?! Damn, you are good. I was 8 when messed around with friends Spectrum ZX and bsed everyone that I'm a "programer", even doe all I could do is draw a basic geometrical shapes with few lines of code. Never tried it but apparently you can learn C from books only.
