If you don’t follow @AustenAllred yet (and Lamda School’s progress), you should. It’s a constant drumbeat of good news, lives materially changed for the better by the technology industry, and a crazily ambitious startup story unfolding in real time.

Also a good demonstration that things which will in the future be massive and look obvious look neither massive nor obvious in the present, but still deliver outstanding, nearly unbelievable outcomes even in their embryonic state.

I mean if a space alien with little understanding of earth culture arrived at earth and you posed it the question: “We have one institution designed to train future monks. We have another institution designed to train computer people. Which do you think industry sources from?”

Looked at it, 17% of income for two years is wayyyyy too high for the kids I’ve taught to and mentored in the inner city. Even th 20k upfront is a huge financial barrier. It’s really out of touch of what struggling families can provide.

I think that's an either/or: either you pay $20k flat upfront, or you pay nothing upfront and commit to paying 17% of income for two years contingent on getting a $50k+/yr job. This is materially better pricing than any sibling of mine got, for probably better product.

You aren’t the people I’m talking about. It’s only going to help those that can afford that, even after a job, taking 17% of income for two years is excessive where I live, costs, rent, family obligations. It’s a cute idea but won’t help diversity in tech because $.

We have many students that graduate, and are then making more money than they were prior to attending Lambda School, even with having to pay back 17% of income. Long term goal is to make the terms even more favorable for students.
