I thought this was one of the great things about ruby when I first met it: the community as a whole had agreed on at least a few stylistic standards (eg spaces>tabs) and effectively nothing violated it. Having this as a first-party tool is clearly the next evolutionary step.

Only doable if the language is incredibly small and easy to parse! Languages that require lookup tables during parsing make this a lot, lot harder.

I am usinng Prettier in javascript, I strongly disagree with some changes, but 99% is perfect and it formats on save.

What I found is that with prettier it goes even farther, it’s not just a linter with autofix but you stop even formatting code yourself, you just write things in one line and save, boom formatted. It’s surprising how light you feel not having to care about formatting at all
