Because if you have a demand deposit which is a material percentage of the total liabilities of the bank they both are incapable of putting that much money to work very quickly and, if they do, you can singlehandedly cause a bank run on any given Tuesday.

Ya and it was an account they opened at a mall or something like that (which ironically meant it was a huge bank with branches everywhere)

I sometimes wish I worked at BigBank so I could see what branches brought people who eventually got $$$$ into the ecosystem. The bank branch for broke college students directly above our campus cafeteria can't possibly cover its own costs but 17 years later I still bank at BoA.

It happens at mid-size S&L, new customer wanted open acct $5mil check house sale, withdraw the money soon 4 next house. Branch manager, other staff, not sure if good idea going to call HQ, I finished up, don't know outcome
