Talked to a friend who does business negotiation for nonprofits about the negotiations I do and her eyes were wide with terror and she says I need to get out of selling to tech corps and sell to nonprofits or something. Much less aggressive. She said she does not envy my job.

FWIW, I have sold to non-profits and spoken to people in similar situation, and the modal opinion is that for-profits are much less of a hassle to sell to, at every level. Decisionmakers at non-profits often demand concessions and interpret a decline as disrespecting the cause.

This is true! My friend does deal with a lot of bureaucracy, I think she’s almost gotten used to it to the point of not knowing it isn’t like that everywhere 😛

With the particulars changed: "You are literally killing children in Africa you monster" because I declined to discount a $200 a month SaaS account by half.

That’s easy! If you target non-profits, the public rate is $400/mo.

Some non-profits use similar reasoning as to why they shouldn't pay their workers market-rate wages

While that is true, I’ve found non-profits to be more viral than any other segment. They very much rely on referral/suggestion from peers.
