The opportunity (and the job) is “Japan is the 3rd largest economy in the world but doesn’t have nearly as many successful startups as you’d expect given that. Can we do things to make them 10X more likely to get started and 10X more likely to survive?”

Happy to chat about the visa situation question. We don't require any particular JLPT level mechanically. If one is not really good with business Japanese, domestic market facing work isn't a realistic possibility; some of our engineering jobs might be.

How friendly is Stripe to remote within Japan w/ fairly close access to Tokyo by Shinkansen?
-
Depends on what you’re doing; that feels likely rough if you’re in a customer-facing role via Japanese customers but might work for certain engineering roles.

can you tell if there’s anything else than backend for engineers? Always feeling a bit jealous because I’m a mobile dev and a lot of companies have mobile teams in the US for some reason :)
-
I think the answer to that is in flux and depends on what particular projects our new Singapore engineering office takes on in the next few months. Very willing to have a conversation with mobile devs. ;)
