(After housing, childcare/schooling are likely next on the list, and while none of these things are as good in Seattle as they are in e.g. Chicago, none are as rough as the situation in SF.)

I was having a conversation with a person in a position to be repeatedly exposed to market norms in SF, and he says $160k plus equity is a rough sell versus $500k++ that AppAmaGooBookSoft is writing in quantity. a) I can understand why that a rough sell and b) that is market.

Perhaps Jr Engineers are more interested in "interesting job" and Sr. Engineers have to b able to afford House? Tracks with the very young (unmarried) and slightly older (married) engineers I know of in SV.
