You're not guaranteed to have a very stable financial situation in your formative years. Many of your choices will intentionally pessimize for the stability of your situation in those years; you *want* the extra risk early.

What about dealing with maternity/paternity leave as a small startup? It’s obviously something you want to offer but also losing a team member for 3 months when you’re a team of 10 is a difficult hit to take.

Except that founders are way too busy on the business to think about pensions, etc. And even when they do, they are not necessarily expert in that field. I don't know one person who would claim they are. You now have quite a bit to write about :-) I hope you will.
