Being a foreigner in
Japan means you will always be treated as a second-class citizen, that’s why it’s such a terrible place for nomads (but still great for tourists) https://www.quora.com/Do-you-agree-with-the-view-that-life-and-work-for-foreigners-is-difficult-in-Japan …https://twitter.com/LeWagonTokyo/status/1019438727628640256 …

Pretty sure you can rent apartments and get a phone as a foreigner though, you might just need to pay a little more/go through some dedicated channels compared to actual residents

In “It’s complicated” news it has probably never been easier to successfully find and rent an apartment in Japan as a foreigner; it may actually be getting harder to get a phone if one doesn’t have a straightforward mid-term++ immigration status. (But easier to get a SIM.)

Also feel like Japan is perceptively changing with regards to integration of foreigners over the course of the 15 years I’ve been here. Lots of anecdotes; e.g. I get “So when are you going home?” less often than literally every time I meet someone for the first time now.

Yeah nobody asks me that, maybe once you’re past a certain age people assume you’re making your life here and not just passing by

I know lots of “nomads” who loved staying in Japan for a few months. Most expats/immigrants I know are also happy here. I agree it has its downsides when it comes to building a business though
