Food’s good. Internet is reliable. Prices are reasonable by first world standards. Tokyo may well be the world’s most livable city. All cultures are complicated; Japan’s culture has a lot of parts which are very likeable.

Pretty sure you can rent apartments and get a phone as a foreigner though, you might just need to pay a little more/go through some dedicated channels compared to actual residents
