Interesting article. My experience has been that even in moderately sized businesses, particularly with a lot of engineering talent - sales is both undervalued and misunderstood. In fact, your article is essentially the opposite of the attitude I've found to be most prevalent.

I agree it's important to learn, but also to be aware of why it holds disdain. Most sales can't code. All they have is ability to convince a client. End up promising world and then usually lying to cover it up. In Tech esp. We've been burnt as consumers and also seen from inside

Theranos is a great example of how sales/marketing can go horribly wrong and tech is forced to play catch-up while said sales team covers up the obvious failures as success. Lasted for almost a decade.

Early in my design career, I relied too much on clients’ input for every little decision. Now I know that they don’t always know exactly what they want. It’s my job to use my experience & creativity to fill that gap.
