Asking variations of "Can we do better here?" seems to be a puzzlingly effective management strategy.

I am the embodied lack of surprise, given how ridiculously effective “Is that really the maximum customers would pay for this?” is. Sometimes I wonder if my career performance would be improved by a tape recorder with button labeled “Hit Play when you start a pricing discussion.”
