This sounds like a whole lot of “if you make me pay taxes and force me not to sell out the privacy of my customers, then I’d rather just not make money!” I mean, ok? While we’re on about oppressive regulations, let’s get rid of those pesky labor and env laws. Because Business!https://twitter.com/patio11/status/1014776645641646081 …

No dog in this fight, as an American who has spent his entire adult life in Japan, but if I had been subject to this regulatory suite when founding my first business I would have just opted not to start. https://twitter.com/levelsio/status/1014367940148260864 …

I was 24 years old and intimidated enough by getting a server on the Internet and figuring out how to file taxes in my third language. Did both of those things! Probably wouldn’t have summoned up sufficient gumption to do them while *also* having regulatory fun over the data.

The internet is drowning in atrocious abuses of privacy and personal data. GDPR is the first regulation with teeth that actually tries to reign in the most egregious abuses. If that means your 24 year old self had too take a little longer to launch, it’s OK with me 🤷‍♂️

The problem is 24 year old Patrick would have just said "ugh this is harder than I thought, maybe I'll just stick it out as a salary man."

GDPR protects the privacy of me and my family. What would you suggest as an alternative?

I didn’t know about regulations at all when I started my first business. Didn’t stop me. I bet that is true for most people.
