The solution to last-quarter-mile infrastructure is either a) be Japan or b) cheat the problem. (This particular cheat is in widespread use in Japan and it’s magic.)

Amazon saves $1/delivery when they can leave packages in their own delivery boxes? I thought it would be somewhere around $0.30.

I think you’re radically underestimating failed deliveries and redeliveries (and also the total costs / unit costs of truck rolls).

They should start by offering a discount for picking up packages at Amazon Locker locations (especially Whole Foods, using shipping as a loss leader!)

i live in a building with one of these, but amazon contractors (i.e. delivering for same day & one day orders) dont have access nor know how to use it amazon reps seem pretty uninterested in figuring it out, too

Bldgs like mine do this for nothing. The USPS delivers to the mail area. Any bldg with a secured entrance/common mail area or office ls doing this now. Are there enough places where this will work? Can they tell what bldgs already have a secure entrance/no need for this?

I would 100% favor apartments that had this option.

My apartment actually has this, an Amazon hub. It's great. I get a text with a code when my package has arrived.
