I will never, never stop facepalming about people with “capitalist” very literally in their job title complaining about what labor costs these days. I’d be at least mildly sympathetic if they e.g. ran a charming local cafe. But when your literal job is allocating efficiently...

... and you complain that AppAmaGooBookSoft are corrupting young engineers minds by promising them enough money to live in your neighborhood, your remedies are: 1) hire people AppAmaGooBookSoft won’t 2) execute better at business or 3) clear the field for better operators

I also have to point out that capital is more abundant than it has ever been and is chasing returns. Your LPs did not give you that pot of money to #*{^#ing buy Bitcoin. Making software/etc businesses in a radically more efficient fashion than BigCo is the trade!

I also enjoy them saying "I don't understand why employees discount equity" while insisting they get preferred stock and employees get common.

That is because those persons are only capable of seeing the cost of labor as opposed to those that see the value of it.

Or, they just want to have their cake and eat it too - they know the multiplier they get from labor, and just wish it cost even less.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing engineers are finally getting paid what they are worth. I am mainly lamenting how SF housing supply and cost of living was the forcing function. Big tech cos can pay. It is new startup creation that will struggle as a result. That’s not good.

IMO this is like "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others." On one hand, even if I weren't a VC, I'd love for startups to have easier access to talent. More innovation! OTOH, I doubt govt or 3rd parties can allocate talent better than free market.

The high cost of labor is because of government interference in the market - aka socialism. If you think capitalism is what drives the high cost of labor, you have no clue about what you're talking about.
