My recollection was that Gifu Prefecture (where I used to live) experimented in the pre-crash years with a "heavily subsidize Desirable Immigrants (TM) to live in Gifu" (I was not eligible) and they nixed it for political/budget/etc reasons after the Lehman crash.

This is a very interesting concept that I like. It's much better than the "trickle down" policy that giving money/breaks to amazon will benefit locals (esp with increased usage of physical automation). States would easily see an ROI on a $10k investment....

After a couple of years for an SE salary (income taxes + sales tax for things they'd undoubtedly buy) along with the actual economic stimulus of adding more money to the local economy.
