A viral post on FB described FL as the “3rd most populous state, 4th largest state economy, the 45th in state education funding.” True?

  2. "Voucher defenders like U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio...seem wedded to keeping the discrimination legal. The only issue being debated here is discrimination. The companies say they don’t want to fund it. Neither should taxpayers."

"By recklessly pushing vouchers and charter schools at all costs, the privatizers funding the school choice movement actually aim to eliminate choices...Shouldn’t parents have the choice to send their child to a well-funded public school?

“As parents, neighbors, and community members, we have a fundamental moral responsibility to desegregate our schools. It’s a matter of basic equity and our commitments to one another in a democratic society.”

Charter Schools have financial incentives to push out kids who are expensive to educate. They have marketing incentives to push out kids w low test scores. They care more about stockholders than students.

" have been talking about increasing teacher pay in FL for years and years. Now that we are talking about it the question is, are VETERAN teachers going to be taken care of? We need to see more funding [directly] to the school districts." -Rep.

The Florida Council of Churches opposes discrimination against any person based upon class, race, gender, sex, religion, or any other category denying the inherent worth of a person. Public funds must not support discrimination. The voucher program as it exists is such a tool.

It's Monday of School Choice Week -- a good time to remind everyone what "school choice" really means: Schools get to choose the students they want to teach and discard the rest.

Reprehensible, ugly and unacceptable. This is publicly-funded discrimination and Tallahassee looks the other way.

In these morally confused times, we must be slam-bang direct: a voucher by any other name – tuition tax credit, opportunity scholarship, education grant, etc.- is still a voucher. It diverts public money to underwrite private interest. It is inherently corrupt.

When help is equivalent to poisonous food for someone who is hungry, it cannot be deemed help. Instead, it must be described as harm.

"Are we to assume that parents know best when it comes to their 5 year olds entering kindergarten but not their 4 year olds entering pre-school? Why can kindergarteners “vote with their feet” but not pre-schoolers?"
