These Republicans who are defensively rage-tweeting “But you’re wrong! I worked my way to pay through college!!” don’t realize they sound like folks who speak of the days when Hershey bars were 5¢ at the general store.

College costs have exploded over the last 10-20 years & wages have not kept up. It’s a totally different landscape and the fact they’re using anecdotal experience from 20+ years ago to reinforce their opinions instead of looking at current cost/wage data is disturbing.

Truth! When I was in college in the 70's I paid $220 a quarter for my fees at UCalif. I was able to pay for that and room and board and gas for my cheap car ($300 used) on a part time job at Montgomery Ward.
