Something I don’t mention, that perhaps I should, is that: if you have lamdas you have algebraic data types. Maybe not efficient ones, but you have them nonetheless. Eh, anyway

Happy New Year! A bunch of us are trying to develop "applied category theory" - and now we've started a new journal on this subject, called "Compositionality". It's free to publish in, and free to read. The first issue just came out! (1/n)

Now that they are no longer ‘African guys’ why are you not telling us the race of the new guys? Why is ‘race’ suddenly not a part of the narrative? Why mention it when it is ‘Africans’ and not mention race when it is not ‘Africans’? Genuine questions.

I'm trying to get enough signatures from ACM members together for a petition to reverse their recent support for a letter opposing immediate Open Access for federal research: If you don't want to Facebook, ping me on twitter or email (ganesh@earth.li).

Any manager who reduces worker autonomy is a bad manager, even if they think they're making their decisions on behalf of the workers.

48.9 degrees C on the farm (western Vic) yesterday. Cockies falling dead from the trees. People and wildlife cannot withstand the extremes we are already experiencing and this is just 1 degree of warming. We are on track for more than 4. 😔

Coming from a musical background (quite a while ago) I’m used to how easy it is to confuse something that’s best used to describe existing things and something that’s actually going to help you make something new.
